Message from the Managing Director
The tourism industry is a significant contributor to Nepal’s GDP. According to World Travel and Tourism annual report (2023) Nepal's tourism sector contributed about 6.6 percent to the GDP and supported around 1.19 million jobs directly and indirectly. However, the fact that Nepal has a large informal economy unfortunately increases the risk of fraudulent activity within the tourism sector, posing challenges to travelers.
Hence, I strongly recommend you to book your travel experiences through a trustworthy agency, ideally one personally recommended by friends or family. Protect yourself from potential scams related to missing documents, insufficient travel insurance, or poor service quality by verifying the credentials of travel guides and companies, such as those issued from the Nepal Tourism Board. Beware of fake reviews and take care to thoroughly research the company’s history.
Additionally, it is also advisable to keep emergency contact numbers at hand such as: 100-Police (Emergency), 102-Ambulance service, 103-Traffic control and 1145-Women Helpline. You may also contact the Tourist Police in Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu by calling +977-1-4247041, 1144 (toll free) or email them at policetourist@nepalpolice.gov.np to file a formal complaint.
